Nidingr is a Norwegian black and death metal band from Borre , which was founded in 1992 under the name Audr .

history

The band was founded in 1992 by guitarist Morten Bergeton "Teloch" Iversen as a solo project under the name Audr. After the renaming to Nidingr and the addition of the second guitarist Stian "Blargh" Hammeren, a first demo was recorded in 1996 with the singer Walter Moen . The Italian label Hearse Records also released this sound carrier, with an edition of 500 copies. Another demo followed in May 1999, with Per Ivar Ederklepp on drums and Audun "Svartedaudun" on bass. After Alf Almén aka Cpt. Estrella Grasa joined the cast as singer, the group signed a recording deal with Rage of Achilles in 2003 . Nidingr never released a phonogram with this label. Instead, the debut album Sorrow Infinite and Darkness appeared in June 2005 on Dark Essence Records . Then Anders Tørressen “Sabizz” Hangård joined as drummer. In August 2006 Hearse Records released the compilation Sodomize the Priest with an edition of 500 pieces. Both Audun and Hangård left the group. In December 2006, a new line-up was announced with Tor Risdal "Seidemann" Stavenes on bass, while the post of drummer was shared by Hangård and American Tony Laureano. In 2010 the second album Wolf-Dather was released on Jester Records , followed by two more albums in 2012 via Indie Recordings Greatest of Deceivers and in 2017 The High Heat Licks Against Heaven via Season of Mist . The latter album was produced by Daniel Bergstrand . In the meantime, the group was also active live. For example, she was represented at the Inferno Metal Festival Norway in 2011 , at the 2013 kick-off party of this festival and in 2015 at the Hellfest .

style

Andreas Schiffmann from musikreviews.de described the music of Sorrow Infinite and Darkness as fast-played Black Metal, in which one creates an “incredibly thick sound” with “reverberant” electric guitars. The songs are also characterized by dissonances . The vocals are more typical for Death Metal. In the more melodic sections, the group reminds me of Dissection and elements from Thrash Metal are also processed. The songs are on average around five minutes long and are rhythmically varied. The use of a synthesizer can also be heard. Overall, you can hear similarities to Sacramentum , Vinterland or early Emperor . Florian from Metal.de was Wolf-Father a mixture of "Norsecore", "modern black metal with diffuse riffing and experimental structures," the death metal borrowed elements and very fast blast beats that of Enslaveds Frost would remember at 45 revolutions per minute . He also felt reminded of Mayhem ( Wolf's Lair Abyss ) in the middle of his career. He recommended the album to fans of this group as well as those of ov Hell or the better Dark Funeral albums. Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann from Rock Hard wrote in his review of Greatest of Deceivers that experimental Black Metal can be heard on it, but apart from good approaches and “enraptured riffs ” it cannot offer much. In a later issue, Wolfgang Liu Kuhn reviewed The High Heat Licks Against Heaven and also noted that ideas are seldom brought to an end. In the songs there are “undercooled industrial riffs” and bellowed vocals. Sebastian Schilling also discussed the album in the edition and made it clear from the sound of the electric guitar that there is everything here that is typical of Norwegian Black Metal: dissonance, "freezing cold" and a distant relationship to rock . Overall, the band create an independent mixture of Black and Death Metal, which is not catchy, however.
