Niekerk Church, built in the 12th and 13th centuries.

Niekerk is a village in the Westerkwartier municipality in the Dutch province of Groningen, which was founded on January 1, 2019 . The population is just over 1,600. Before that, it had belonged to the community of Grootegast since 1990 . For a long time it formed a common parish with the neighboring villages of Oldekerk and Faan , but each village had its own church.

Architectural monuments

The eponymous church was built in its older parts in the 12th century from tuff stone . The tower with straps made of brick and tuff is also Romanesque , the south transept from the 13th century, made entirely of brick, is already Gothic .
