Niels Ramberg
Niels Ramberg (born July 1, 1946 ) is a former Danish table tennis player who was internationally active in the 1960s and 1970s. He took part in six world championships and at least two European championships.
Career
In childhood, Niels Ramberg fell ill with polio , which resulted in a disability on the right leg. This did not prevent him from concentrating intensely on the sport of table tennis. He started at the club Søllerød, then moved to Lyngby and later to the Virum-Sorgefri board tennis club, with which he won all Danish team championships from 1968 to 1979 with the exception of 1978.
In 1964 he was the first time Danish individual championship among adults. In the same year he was nominated for the first time for the world championship . Further World Cup participations took place in 1967 , 1969 , 1973 , 1975 and 1977 . He won medals at Nordic Championships , bronze in singles in 1965 and silver in doubles in 1973.
Left-hander Niels Ramberg won a total of 27 titles at the Danish national championships. He played 172 international matches. In 1977 he ended his career as a competitive athlete.
Later he successfully participated in international senior tournaments. In 2008 he was world champion in the over 60 class in doubles with Claus Pedersen and in 2016 over 70 world champion in singles. In 2003, 2013 and 2015 he won the European Championship in doubles together with Claus Pedersen .
Private
Niels Ramberg earned his living as a lawyer . His older sister Lis was also a Danish national player.
