Claus Pedersen

Claus Pedersen (born November 4, 1948 ) is a former Danish table tennis player . He was one of Denmark's strongest players from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s. During this time he took part in several European championships and ten world championships . He also played for several German clubs.

Career

Claus Pedersen was four times youth champion of Denmark. For adults he was always in the final of the individual competition at the national Danish championships from 1967 to 1984. 15 times he was Danish champion in singles, 8 times in doubles and 4 times in mixed.

From 1967 to 1985 he took part in ten world championships , but never came close to medal ranks. He was more successful at the Nordic Championships , where he landed several times at the top:

  • 1971 second in the individual behind Hans Alsér
  • 1973 semi-finals in singles
  • 1979 semi-finals in singles, second in doubles with Johnny Hansen
  • 1981 second in doubles with Johnny Hansen
  • 1983 semi-finals in singles, second in doubles with Teis Jonasson

After the 1979 World Cup, Claus Pedersen was among the top 32 in the ITTF world rankings . As early as November 1982 he had 288 international matches, a record for all sports in Denmark at the time. In 1985 Claus Pedersen was voted Table Tennis Player of the Year in Denmark . In 1990 he ended his international career after 357 appearances in the national team.

Later he often competed in the European Senior Championships and won numerous titles here, for example

  • 2003 in doubles with Niels Ramberg (over 50)
  • 2009 in single (over 60)
  • 2011 in singles and doubles with Niels Ramberg (60+)
  • 2013 in singles and doubles with Niels Ramberg (65+)
  • 2015 in doubles with Niels Ramberg (65+)
  • 2017 in single (over 65)

He also won several titles at the Senior World Championships , for example in 1996 in the over 40 doubles with Li Yuxiang , in 2008 in the over 60 doubles with Niels Ramberg, and in 2016 in the over 65 doubles with Yao Changyuan (Belgium).

Activities in Germany

In Germany, Claus Pedersen played for several clubs. In 1977 he moved from MBK Arhus to TTC Grünweiß Bad Hamm in the Bundesliga . After an interlude in the Danish 2nd division at the Bronderslev club, he became active in 1985 in Berlin at TSV Rudow 1888 , with whom he became champion of the 2nd Bundesliga North in 1986 and where he remained until at least 1988. From 1995 to 1999 he joined TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell - coming from Esberg in Denmark . In the early 2000s he played for Hamburger SV , which he left in 2003 for Aarhus.

Private

Claus Pedersen is married and has one daughter.
