NigComSat-1 is a Nigerian telecommunications satellite that was launched on May 13, 2007 with a Langer Marsch 3B from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center on behalf of the Nigerian space agency NASRDA and was operated by NIGCOMSAT .
The three-axis stabilized satellite is based on the Chinese DFH-4 - bus system , 5150 kg and has four C-band, Ku-band fourteen, eight Ka-band and two L-band transponders with a total of seven antennas. With these, its transmission capacity is sufficient for data volumes of more than 150 television programs at the same time. The service life is given as 15 years. Its position is 42.5 degrees East. The contract between NigComSat and the China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) for the design, manufacture and launch of the satellite was signed in December 2004.
On November 18, 2008, it was announced that the satellite had been irreparably damaged by the failure of both awnings and was consequently decommissioned.
As a result, on March 24, 2009, NigComSat ordered a technically identical replacement satellite NigComSat-1R from CGWIC . This was started on December 19, 2011 with a Langer Marsch 3B / E.
