Nigel Allan Havers (born November 6, 1951 in London ) is a British actor .

Life

Havers attended the Arts Educational School in London and began his career as a radio speaker in the radio and played roles as the theater . Since he did not make his breakthrough as an actor, he continued to work normally until the mid-1970s. From 1970 he had his first small supporting roles in film and television. He made his breakthrough as an actor in 1977 with the title role in the six-part miniseries Nicholas Nickleby . He subsequently had roles in international productions, the highlight was his role in several times with the Oscar winning sports drama Chariots of Fire , for which he is a BAFTA received nomination. He then starred in David Lean's Journey to India and Steven Spielberg's The Realm of the Sun , among others , but focused mainly on television appearances in Great Britain. Between 1983 and 1990 he played the doctor Dr. Latimer in the series Don't Wait Up , from 1997 to 1999 he hired Dr. Paige in Police Doctor Dangerfield . From 2002 to 2003 he starred in two seasons of the British sitcom Manchild (in German: "Späte Jungs"). From 2009 he played in the series Coronation Street Lewis Archer.

Havers has been married to Georgiana Bronfman for the third time since 2007, and he has a daughter from his first marriage. His first marriage to Carolyn Cox between 1974 and 1989 was divorced, and his second marriage to Polly Williams - daughter of actor Hugh Williams - ended with her death in 2004. His father Baron Havers represented Mick Jagger and Keith Richards as a lawyer in the 1960s and became Lord Chancellor in 1987 .

In 2010 he took part in the tenth season of the British television show I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! part. In the afternoon program of BBC One , Havers has been hosting the series The Bidding Room , the British adaptation of Bares for Rares, since June 2020 .

He is the godfather of British comedian and actor Jack Whitehall .
