Nijolė Ambrazaitytė (born February 21, 1939 in Burokai near Kalvarija , Lazdijai Rajongemeinde ; † November 27, 2016 ) was a Lithuanian singer and conservative politician .

Life

Her parents emigrated to Germany and then to Canada . In 1948 her family (Nijolė with her grandparents and relatives ) was deported from the Viduklė train station to Igarka (Siberia). From 1955 she lived in Maklakova ( Krasnoyarsk ). In 1956 she came to Lithuania and lived in Raseiniai . After graduating from high school in 1959, she completed her studies as a singer at Lietuvos konservatorija . She then worked as a mezzo-soprano at the Operos ir baleto teatras . From 1979 she taught at Lietuvos konservatorija and became a lecturer. From 1990 to 2000 she was a member of the Seimas . In 1992 she was elected to parliament in Lazdynai . She worked on the environment committee.

She was a member of the Tėvynės sąjunga .
