Nikiforos (bishop)

Nikiforos ( Greek Νικηφόρος , * as Athanasios Archangelidis 1931 in Feres , Western Thrace , Greece ; † October 4, 2009 in Alexandroupoli ) was Bishop of the Orthodox Church of Greece and Metropolitan of Didymoticho , Orestiada and Soufli .

Life

Nikiforos studied in the seminary of Chalki on Heybeliada (Chalki) , one of the Prince Islands in the Sea of ​​Marmara , and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki . In 1956 he was ordained a deacon ; he was ordained priest in 1961. He was first chaplain and secretary of the Patriarch of Constantinople Athenagoras , later chaplain of the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki and Veria and professor at the teachers' college Zarifeios Alexandroupoli . Afterwards he was a preacher in Alexandroupoli and chancellor of the diocese of Alexandroupoli for a long time.

In 1988 he was elected Metropolitan of Didymoticho , Orestiada and Soufli .

Bishop Nikiforos died of an incurable disease. He will be buried on October 6, 2009 in the Panagia Church in Eleftherotria, Didymoticho.
