Nikita Valerjewitsch Novikow ( Russian: Никита Валерьевич Новиков ; born  November 10, 1989 in Maiski , Vologda Oblast ) is a former Russian track and road cyclist .

Athletic career

Nikita Nowikow won the bronze medal in the team pursuit at the European Junior Track Cycling Championships in Athens in 2006 . In 2007 he won a stage on the road in the Cup of Grudziadz Town President . On the track he was again third in the team pursuit of the European Championship. At the Junior World Championships in Aguascalientes , he won silver in the team pursuit and gold in the points race on the track. He finished third in the individual time trial on the road .

From the 2008 season, Nowikow was active in international professional road cycling teams and was able to achieve successes in the stage races of the Tour of Slovakia , Tour des Pays de Savoie and Giro della Valle d'Aosta in 2011 .

In 2013, after a positive doping test for the steroid Ostarine, which can be used for muscle building , Nikita Nowikow was initially temporarily suspended by the UCI World Cycling Association and, at the beginning of January 2014, retroactively banned by the Russian Association for two years from May 17, 2013. He did not return to cycling.
