Nikjup [ nikjup ] ( bulg . Никюп ) is a village in northern Bulgaria . It is located 20 km north of the old Bulgarian capital Veliko Tarnowo ( Second Bulgarian Empire ).
geography
The village is centrally located in the Bulgarian Danube Plain, near the Rossitsa river .
history
The ancient Roman city of Nicopolis ad Istrum ("City of Victory on the Danube") is 3 km from the village. Since 2010 the place has given its name to Nikyup Point , a headland in the Antarctic.
