Niklas Römer

Niklas Römer (born May 7,  1988 in Dormagen ) is a former German football player .

career

Römer, son of the former soccer player Dirk Römer , played basketball and soccer until 2005 . In 2005 he played for the footballers of the Neuss Frogs, in the playing years 2008 and 2009 he strengthened the Cologne Falcons . The move to the Düsseldorf Panthers followed , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 2010. He stayed in Düsseldorf until the end of the 2012 season. For the 2013 season, Römer, who studied fitness economics, joined the Braunschweig Lions . The 1.92 meter wide receiver  became German champions in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019 with Braunschweig, and he also won the Eurobowl with the team in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 . In the Eurobowl 2016 he was named the most valuable player of the game.

Before the 2019 season, Römer announced the end of his career, his last game was the German Bowl XLI . In his senior season he scored the 100th touchdown of his career. Römer ended his career as one of the most successful German passport recipients in the history of the German Football League with pass catches for a total of 9235 yards of space.

National team

With the German national team , Römer became European champions in 2010 and 2014. In the 2014 European Championship final against hosts Austria, Römer managed the decisive touchdown . At the 2011 World Cup, he reached fifth place with Germany.
