Niklaus Bütler
Niklaus Bütler (born October 28, 1786 in Auw , Canton Aargau ; † November 14, 1864 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss painter.
Short biography
Niklaus Bütler received his artistic training from the painters Wüest and Huber in Zurich. He married Anna Maria Trutmann from Küssnacht am Rigi , where the impoverished family moved into their new residence around 1820. Hoping for a better livelihood, he and his family moved to Lucerne in 1839. His two sons Anton Bütler and Joseph Niklaus Bütler also went into his apprenticeship . His work includes church pictures, historical scenes, theater sets , portraits and also furniture. His monumental canvas painting Gessler's Death , which he created in 1834 for the Tell Chapel in Küssnacht, is well known.
