Nikolai Massalitinov
Nikolai Ossipowitsch Massalitinow ( Bulgarian Николай Масалитинов ; born April 24, 1880 in Jelez , Russia , † March 14, 1961 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian- Russian director.
Life
Massalitinov first worked at the Moscow Art Theater before he went to the Bulgarian National Theater in Sofia. From 1925 to 1944 he was chief director at the National Theater. In 1925 he opened a studio at the theater in which a large number of Bulgarian actors were trained. From 1944 to 1961 he worked as a director at the National Theater.
He staged around 140 works for the stage and is considered a pioneer of realism in Bulgarian drama and stage art. He was awarded the Dimitrov Prize.
