Nikolai Michailowitsch Lissowski

Nikolai Mikhailovich Lissowski ( Russian Николай Михайлович Лисовский ; also: Nikolai M. Lisovskij ; born January 1 . Jul / 13. January  1854 greg. In Moscow ; †  19th September 1920 ) was a Russian bibliographer and professor. Lissowski is considered to be the founder of the Russian documentation system.

Life

Nikolai Lissowski studied at the Petersburg Forest Institute. From 1881 he was the editor of the magazine "Российская библиография" (German Russian Bibliography ), which contained articles and book reviews. From 1884 to 1894 he published the magazine "Библиограф" ( Eng . The Bibliograph ).

Lissowski's main work is the "Библиография русской периодической печати" (German bibliography of the periodical press ), completed in 1915 , a nearly complete list of all Russian newspapers and magazines between 1703 and 1900.

From 1913 to 1917, Lissowski gave special courses in documentation as a private lecturer at Petersburg University , and from 1916 to 1919 also at Moscow University and at the “AL Shanyawski” Municipal People's University in Moscow.

Lissowski was the author of numerous articles in the encyclopaedic dictionary by FA Brockhaus and IA Efron ( Энциклопедический Словарь Брокгауза и Ефрона ), including the entries " Book ", " Book Studies " and " Book Trade ".
