Nikolai Nikolaevich Parijski ( Russian Николай Николаевич Парийский ; born September 17 . Jul / thirtieth September  1900 greg. In St. Petersburg ; † 29. March 1996 in Moscow ) was a Soviet astronomer , geophysicist and university teachers .

Life

Parijski studied at the physical - mathematical faculty of Moscow University (MGU) with graduation in 1924 and then taught there. In 1965 he was appointed professor .

From 1935 Parijski worked in the Moscow Institute of Earth Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, since 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)). In 1956 he became head of department there. In 1960 he received his doctorate in physical and mathematical sciences . In 1968 he was elected a corresponding member of the AN-SSSR.

Parijski's research focus was cosmogony . He carried out fundamental work on the rotation of the earth . He showed that the observed irregularities in the Earth's rotation by either the polar motion , nor by the seasonal movements of air masses and the changes in the temperatures of the oceans can be explained. He blamed the planetary circulation for the annual variation in the rotational speed and estimated the centuries-long slowdown in the rotational speed. He studied the deformation of the earth by the tides and was one of the founders of gravimetric research in the USSR . Further work dealt with the nature of the solar corona . Together with Vasily Grigoryevich Fessenkow , Parijski calculated the orbits of bodies that were torn out of the sun under the influence of another star . The results did not match the solar system , which refuted James Jeans' theory of the formation of the solar system.

Parijski's son is the astronomer Juri Nikolajewitsch Parijski .
