Nikolai Petrovich Burlyayev
Nikolai Petrovich Burljajew ( Russian: Николай Петрович Бурляев , born August 3, 1946 in Moscow ) is a Russian actor and film director.
Life
Burlyayev grew up in a family of actors. At the age of 16, he played the title role of the boy Ivan in Andrei Tarkovsky's film Ivan's Childhood (1962), which made him famous. Four years later he had a role in Tarkowski's Andrei Rublev . Burlyayev trained as a film director with Mikhail Romm and Lev Kulidzhanov. In the 1980s he played the lead role in Frontromanze (1983) and the title role of Mikhail Lermontov in Lermontov (1986).
Burljajew founded the annual Zolotoi Vityaz Moscow Film Festival of Slavic and Orthodox Peoples in 1991 and the International Association of Cinematographers of Slavic and Orthodox Peoples in 1996 , of which he is chairman. In 2014, in an open letter, he supported Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the Russian military intervention in Ukraine .
Burlyayev is married to actress and director Natalya Bondarchuk; the couple has a son. He is the son-in-law of Sergei Bondarchuk .
