Nicholas Bencsics

Nikolaus Bencsics , kr. Nikola Benčić , (born October 12, 1937 in Nagynyárád ) is a Hungarian linguist , historian , educator and writer.

Life

education

Bencsics attended elementary schools in Narda and Jászberény -Hajta, the latter in the course of the forced relocation of his parents. From 1953 to 1956 he attended the South Slavic teacher training center in Budapest . Bencsics experienced the Hungarian uprising in Budapest and came to Tyrol in 1957 . He graduated from the middle school for Hungarian refugees in Grän . From 1957 to 1962 he studied Slavic Studies and History at the University of Vienna . In 1963 he obtained his doctorate with the dissertation "Life, work and literary role of Mate Meršić Miloradić".

Act

From 1963 he worked as an educator at the episcopal boarding school in Eisenstadt and taught at the episcopal private teacher training facility, and later at the Wolfgarten high school for music education . He also taught at the pedagogical college in Eisenstadt . From 1984 to 2007 he was lecturer for literature and culture of Burgenland Croats at the Slavic Institute in Vienna.

In 1983 he became a member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb . In 1999, Bencsics received the Burgenland Croatian Culture Prize for his commitment and work as a teacher, official, linguist, publicist and researcher. He is a member of the Croatian Writers' Association in Zagreb. The University of Vienna awarded him the title of honored university professor.

In the national sector, he began to get involved in the Croatian Academic Club (Hrvatski Akademski Klub, HAK). Bencsics is cultural advisor and co-founder of the magazine "Glas". From 1972 to 1976 he was president of the Croatian press association Hrvatsko Štamparsko Društvo. In 1994 the scientific institute of the Burgenland Croats Znanstveni Institut Gradišćanskih Hrvatov was established through its driving force, of which he has long been the driving force and committee member.

Nikola Bencsics is the author and editor of numerous books, studies and articles. He is married and has two sons. Today he lives in Eisenstadt.
