Nikolaus F. Troje

Nikolaus Friedrich Troje (born September 21, 1960 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German biologist and biopsychologist .

Life

Troje broke off his philosophy studies at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main from 1980–1981 in order to take the “agricultural assistant examination” at the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture instead . In 1984 he took up the academic path again and studied physics, mathematics and biology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . In 1990 he completed his studies with the degree "Diplom-Biologist". With a thesis on color vision in insects, he received his doctorate in 1994 with Klaus Vogt in Freiburg , supported by the German National Academic Foundation and the State Graduate Fund .

He then worked at the Max Planck Institute for Biocybernetics and qualified as a professor in 1998 for animal physiology at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen and in 1999 for biopsychology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum . There he headed a junior research group funded by the Volkswagen Foundation until 2005 . Since 2003 he has also taught at Queen's University Kingston in Ontario , where he had previously worked from 1997–1999 with the support of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation .

Since 2006 he has worked exclusively in Canada, where he holds the Canada Research Chair in Vision and Behavioral Sciences. He teaches psychology and computer science at Queen's University and is a professor at the Center for Vision Research at York University .
