Nikolaus Kehl

Nikolaus Kehl SJ (born December 26, 1914 in Bütthard near Würzburg , † November 3, 2005 in Innsbruck ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian , New Testament scholar and university professor. He taught as professor for New Testament biblical studies at the University of Innsbruck

Life

Kehl joined the Society of Jesus while still at high school. He began studying philosophy at the Berchmanskolleg in Pullach , against the background of the political situation in Germany, he continued his philosophical and theological studies in Canada, followed by Bible studies in Rome. From 1951 to 1962 Nikolaus Kehl worked at the De Nobili College in Pune ( India ). He then returned to Europe for health reasons. He received his PhD in 1966 in Innsbruck for Dr. theol. , his habilitation followed in 1968. From 1966 he taught his religious and biblical studies at the theological faculty in Innsbruck. In 1970 Nikolaus Kehl was appointed full professor of New Testament Biblical Studies there, and headed the then Institute for New Testament Biblical Studies until his retirement in 1982. In the period after the Second Vatican Council , in which exegesis and biblical theology were realigned, he brought Kehl his experiences from his work in India in the work of the faculty and the development of the subject. In the years 1972/73 and 1975-77 the theological faculty Innsbruck was dean .
