Nikolaus von Rakonitz
Nikolaus von Rakonitz ( Czech Mikuláš Rakovník , also Mikuláš z Rakovníka ; Latin Nicolaus de Rakovnik ; * around 1350 , † 1390 ) was a Bohemian theologian and 1379/1380 rector of Charles University in Prague . He also wrote several theological writings in Latin.
Life
Nikolaus, who presumably came from Rakonitz in western Bohemia, studied at Charles University, where he obtained the academic degrees of a master's degree in liberal arts and a baccalaureate in theology. In 1379/80 he held the post of rector at Charles University. In the disputes about filling positions at the Collegium Carolinum, he supported the claims of the Bohemian nation together with Nikolaus von Leitomischl and Stephan von Kolin . He was friends with Archbishop Johann von Jenstein , whose efforts to introduce the Feast of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary he supported.
Although Jan Hus referred to him as “poeta prestantissimus”, only the “Lectura super Psalmos” have probably survived from his literary estate.
