Nils Petersen (pastor)

Nils Petersen (* 1970 ) is a German Protestant pastor, deaconry scientist and writer.

Live and act

Nils Petersen studied Protestant Theology and Special Education in Hamburg and Diaconal Studies in Heidelberg. 2001 Doctorate in Heidelberg as Dr. theol. with a work on the mentally handicapped in the structure of society, diakonia and church . From 2003 to 2009 Petersen was pastor in Fockbek and Nübbel , Schleswig-Holstein for six years . From 2009 to 2014 Petersen was the Scientific Director of the Church and City Office at the University of Hamburg . From 2014 to 2019 he was the pastor of the Hamburger Rathauspassage, a diaconal institution in the heart of the city. At the beginning of 2019 he left the evangelical project because the church profile decreased and employees hid a cross he had attached.

Since April 1, 2020, Nils Petersen has been pastor in the first pastor of the Evangelical Luther Church in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld.

Petersen teaches as a lecturer at the IBAF (Institute for Education and Training) of the Diakonie Rendsburg , the University of Hamburg Department of Protestant Theology; the Protestant University for Social Work and Diakonia “Das Rauhe Haus”, the Technical School for Curative Education of the Evangelical Foundation Alsterdorf and the University of Music and Theater (HfMT) in Hamburg. In 2005 he founded the "P & P-Verlag für Narrative Theologie" with the Protestant theologian Philine Pawlas, in which u. A. Hans-Martin Gutmann edited books. Petersen was, together with Wolfgang Grünberg (†) and Friedrich Brandi-Hinrichs, the editor of the scientific publication series Church in the City . The series has been published by Nils Petersen (Hamburg), Christoph Sigrist (Zurich) and Alexander Höner (Berlin) since 2016.

Artistic work

Petersen has a particular interest in linking his theological work with cross-border art. With the concert organist Kerstin Petersen, who has been married since 1999, he initiated numerous projects for literature and the organ. He was able to implement numerous projects with visual artists such as Ludgar Trautmann, Ingo Warncke and again and again with the Mannheim painter Mehrdad Zaeri. One result of these interdisciplinary art projects was realized in 2014 in the CD book project “silent tones and narrated images” together with Kerstin Petersen and Mehrdad Zaeri.

Since 2014 Nils Petersen has appeared regularly at poetry and preacher slams in German-speaking countries.
