Wolfgang Grünberg

Wolfgang Grünberg (born August 10, 1940 in Swinoujscie ; † August 13, 2016 in Hamburg ) was a German Protestant theologian and professor at the University of Hamburg .

Life

Grünberg studied Protestant theology at the Universities of Tübingen, Hamburg, Heidelberg and Berlin. From 1965 to 1968 he worked as a research assistant at the church college in (West) Berlin for the theologian Martin Fischer . The Vicariate made Grünberg in Berlin and St. Louis . In 1971 Wolfgang Grünberg received his doctorate in Berlin on the basis of his dissertation entitled Homiletics and Rhetoric, on the question of an appropriate determination of relationships . From 1971 to 1978 he was pastor of the church in the community center Heerstraße Nord (Berlin-Staaken) . In 1978 he became professor for practical theology at the University of Hamburg. In 2005 he retired .

In 1987 Grünberg co-founded the “Church and City” department in the Protestant Theology department at the University of Hamburg. He headed the office until 2015.

The focus of his work was practical theology, in particular theology of the big city and Jewish and interreligious religious education . His research projects included best practice analyzes of exemplary church and diaconal work in the (socially and economically) divided city as well as changes in religious diversity and church membership in the Hamburg metropolitan region.

Grünberg died after a serious illness at the age of 76 in Hamburg.
