Nina Stahli
Nina Stähli (born August 30, 1961 in Zug ) is a Swiss artist living in Berlin and Lucerne .
plant
Nina Stähli makes interventions, performances, films and multimedia exhibitions. Her first work cycles consist of sculptures, paintings and installations. Because her expressive painting is not only carried out on conventional canvas, but also on everyday materials such as corrugated cardboard or paper bags, Stähli's art leaves the protected area of traditional art. In a second phase, her works of art, such as the so-called "Big Heads", begin to transform into wearable sculptures and thus interact with the real world as performance accessories in actions and films. Shaped by her acting experience, she integrates photography, film, literature and theater into her singular oeuvre. To this end, she enters into collaborations with curators, art halls, galleries, authors and art journalists. She has also implemented several art and construction projects in Switzerland and Berlin.

Solo exhibitions
Nina Stähli's solo exhibitions have never been mere work presentations from the start. She always went and continues with real or fictional people or topics such as forced resettlement, greed or loneliness, which she approaches in a long research process. Around this she develops whole work complexes from films and performances, which she carries out herself and with the help of a production team; For these actions, sculptures such as the mask-like "Big Heads", but also conventional sculptures and paintings. This mixture turns the exhibitions into stagings that continue to unfold before, during and after the opening of the show.

Films and locations
Nina Stähli breaks all dramaturgical conventions in her films and challenges the viewer by deliberately ignoring cinematic norms. The unfamiliar way of dealing with action and tension initially leads to the conclusion that no narratives can be recognized. This supposed impression is reinforced by the lack of verbal articulation of the "Big Heads" figures. But anyone who engages in the reduction of Stähli's filmic works and the artist's deliberate flow of images soon recognizes the lack of familiarity as a space for their own imagination to develop. Each viewer constructs an individual film, the figures with their oversized heads and their apparent forlornness become a poetic moment. The soundtracks composed for the films in symbiosis with the minimalist actions form a further level of interpretation and at the same time are an identity-creating means of expression for the silent "big heads".
