Nino Basile
Nino Basile (born July 28, 1866 in Palermo , † April 11, 1937 there ) was an Italian historian and art historian .
One focus of his activity was the search for evidence of the history of Palermo. His knowledge of the manuscripts of older scholars such as Antonino Mongitore , which are preserved in the Biblioteca Comunale in Palermo and contain a lot of information about lost documents and buildings, was helpful to him . For example, he identified the facade details that came to light during a renovation of Villa Napoli in 1920 as remains of the Cuba Soprana and facade details on a building west of the historic old town as remains of the Norman church of Santa Maria della Speranza .
Nino Basile worked for the newspaper Giornale di Sicilia and was a member of several societies and commissions, including a.
- the Sicilian Society for Patriotic History ( Società Siciliana per la Storia Patria ),
- the Commission for the Preservation and Protection of Buildings in the Province of Palermo
- the Diocesan Commission for Sacred Art
- the commission for the cataloging and administration of sacred art as an expert for works of art.
