Nino Mozzo

Nino Mozzo (born March 10, 1911 in Asola ; † September 19, 1978 ibid) was an Italian racing cyclist .

Nino Mozzo was active in many sports from childhood, including football, athletics , cycling and tamburello . His father had a bicycle shop in which the son worked. Plinio Turazza , sporting director of the national team, became aware of Mozzo's talent as a cyclist. After 30 victories on the road, Mozzo turned to track cycling . At the age of 18 he became the Italian amateur sprint champion .

In 1932, at the World Railroad Championships in Rome , Nino Mozzo was runner-up in the sprint world championship, behind the German Albert Richter , and second in the European championship in Vienna . He took part in a total of five world championships.

In 1972 Mozzo was named a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic . The stadium in San Giovanni Lupatoto is named after him, and the Nino Mozzo memorial race for everyone is also held there .
