The Nippon Series 2013 , officially the Konami Nippon Series 2013 ( コ ナ ミ 日本 シ リ ー ズ 2013 ) according to sponsorship agreements , was the 64th edition of the annual championship final series in Japanese professional baseball . The record and previous year's champions Yomiuri Giants from the Central League under manager Tatsunori Hara met the Tōhoku Rakuten Golden Eagles from the Pacific League , founded in 2004 , the only professional team from the Tōhoku region, under Sen'ichi Hoshino . The Golden Eagles prevailed with four to three games and won the first championship title in team history. As MVP Rakuten pitcher was Manabu Mima excellent, the two wins recorded.

Regular season and playoffs

In the Central League, the Yomiuri Giants were able to clearly win the regular season as in the previous year, as the Hanshin Tigers secured their first playoff participation since 2010. The Hiroshima Tōyō Carp were able to take their third place - the best placement since 1997 - the secure first participation in the Climax Series since the introduction of the playoff system.

In the Pacific League contributed an outstanding season of pitcherass Masahiro Tanaka (24-0, 1.27 ERA) to the first league title of the Tōhoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. As in the previous year , the second place went to the Saitama Seibu Lions , third place in the Climax Series went to the Chiba Lotte Marines , their first playoff participation since winning the title in 2010 .

In the Climax Series (start of the first stage in both leagues on October 12), the first place in the regular season prevailed in both leagues in the final stage .

In seven games, the Tōhoku Rakuten Golden Eagles defeated the Yomiuri Giants. In Game 6, when Rakuten was hoping for a home win and the series win, pitcherass Tanaka had to book the first loss of the entire season. In the decisive seventh game for Rakuten pitcher colleague Manabu Mima, an error of the guests, RBIs from Takero Okajima and Akihisa Makida and finally a save from Tanaka made a shutout victory over the Giants and the championship perfect.

aftermath

In the Asia Series 2013, this time among five clubs from four Asia-Pacific nations and one European guest, the Golden Eagles failed in the semifinals against the hosts Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions .

The Golden Eagles Victory Parade in native Sendai took place on November 24th and drew over 200,000 people. The Miyagi Prefecture awarded the team the Miyagi-kenmin eiyo-shō ( 宮城 県 民 栄 誉 賞 , about "Honorary Award of the Prefectural Citizens of Miyagi") for giving courage and hope to the region that was badly hit by the Tōhoku earthquake in 2011 .
