Nirgendland is a German documentary by Helen Simon about the harrowing case of sexual abuse. The film premiered on April 30, 2014 at the Toronto International Documentary Film Festival. The cinema release in Germany was on April 2, 2015.

content

The film portrays a woman in her mid-50s who was sexually abused by her father for years, but suppressed her experience and glorified her father. When her own daughter was also abused by him, she reports him. In court, however, she was not believed, and her father was acquitted. The daughter then committed suicide.

criticism

The film service ruled that the film "breaks up the woman's personal narrative again and again through additional sources and convincingly conveys the contradicting feelings of fear and guilt of abused people".
