Aikidō Toho Iai

Aikido Toho Iai (also called Nishio-Ryū or Nishio Ryū ) is a style of Iaidō founded by Shōji Nishio , based on the Aikidō . It is a combination of body and sword techniques.

history

Through his experience with the martial arts Karate , Judo and Jōdō , Shōji Nishio developed the Aikido Toho Iai around 1970. His master Ueshiba Morihei emphasized how important it was to train with the sword in order to better understand the movements of Aikido.

Aikido Toho Iai is first performed by beginners with the bokken . Advanced students may also use a blunt Iaitō . The individual forms (katas) are practiced again and again individually. Particular attention should be paid to breathing, correct foot position and dynamics. There are fifteen different forms of Iai. Apart from the first and the last, there is an equivalent for each in Aikido ( Aikidō techniques ):
