history

The party was founded on February 28, 2014 in the Palace of Youth, Culture and Sport in Pristina , under the name Nisma për Kosovën (Albanian for "Initiative for Kosovo"). The founding members include many politicians from the ranks of the Partia Demokratike e Kosovës, with whom they had previously broken, above all the parliamentary speaker Jakup Krasniqi and the former minister Fatmir Limaj. The reason for the break was various disagreements with the party chairman of the PDK and Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi .

On January 29, 2018, the party congress decided to change the party name. Since then the party has been called Nisma Social Democrats.
