Jakup Krasniqi

Jakup Krasniqi (born January 1, 1951 in Negroc near Glogovac , Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar politician ( Nisma Socialdemokrate ). He was President of the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo from December 2007 to July 2014 .

Life

Krasniqi studied history at the Philosophical Faculty of Prishtina University between 1972 and 1976 . Later he was a history teacher in Drenas and Skënderaj . From 1981 to 1991 Krasniqi was in Serbian captivity in Zrenjanin and Novi Sad .

Since its inception, he has been an active member of the board of Lidhja Demokratie e Kosovës in Drenas. He was also involved in building the UÇK and was its press spokesman during the Kosovo war . In February and March 1999, he took part in the negotiations on the Rambouillet Treaty as a member of the Albanian delegation .

On May 14, 1999, the Partia Demokratike e Kosovës was founded. From then until 2014, Krasniqi was a member and general secretary of this party. In the first free elections in Kosovo, Krasniqi became a member of parliament and chairman of the PDK parliamentary group.

In the first post-war government, Krasniqi became Minister of Public Service. In the negotiations with the Serbian side he was a member of the strategic political group. In the parliamentary elections in Kosovo in 2007 , the PDK was the winner. On January 9, 2008, the MPs elected him to be their Speaker of Parliament .

In September 2010, following the resignation of Fatmir Sejdiu, he temporarily took over the office of the Kosovar President, which he initially held until February 22, 2011, the day his successor Behgjet Pacolli was elected , and again from his resignation on March 30, 2011 until Election of Atifete Jahjaga exercised on April 7, 2011.

On February 28, 2014, he, Fatmir Limaj and other members of the PDK founded the Nisma Social Democrats . The reason for the break with the PDK were disagreements with its policy, especially that of its chairman Hashim Thaçi . Jakup Krasniqi is President of the National Council.

Jakup Krasniqi is married and has three daughters and one son.
