Atifete Jahjaga was considered an ally of the United States and the European Union . She wanted Kosovo to join the EU and NATO . The main concern was the country's relatively young population. For example, she promoted student exchanges with other countries and called for the abolition of visa requirements for Kosovars. In fighting high unemployment, she counted on the support of the US and the EU. Also Edita Tahiri , the Deputy Prime Minister, was an important support, as it was sometimes responsible for foreign policy.
