Nisshin Shokuhin Holdings KK ( Japanese 日 清 食品 ホ ー ル デ ィ ン グ ス 株式会社 , Nisshin shokuhin hōrudingusu kabushiki kaisha , English Nissin Foods Holdings Co., Ltd. ) is an international group of companies in the food industry headquartered in Shinjuku , Japan . Nissin was the first supplier of instant noodle dishes, which still determine the product range today.

The company was founded in 1948 by Momofuku Andō (1910-2007) as Chūkōsōsha ( 中 交 総 社 ) in Ikeda ( Osaka ). There Andō developed the world's first instant noodle dish, which came onto the market in 1958 as "Chicken Ramen". For preparation, the pre-cooked, freeze-dried noodles only had to be briefly boiled in water and supplemented with a separately packaged seasoning and flavor mixture. The model was ramen , a noodle dish widespread in Japan, which is mainly offered in specialized restaurants and snack bars. In the same year the company was renamed Nisshin Shokuhin KK ( 日 清 食品 株式会社 , English Nissin Food Products Co., Ltd. ). In 1970 the first foreign subsidiary was founded in the USA , followed by numerous others in Asia , America and Europe ; today the group consists of 24 companies worldwide. In 1971, Nissin Foods introduced “Cup Noodles”, an instant noodle soup packed in a plastic cup , which does not require any cooking utensils or dishes, all that is needed is to add boiling water to the cup and wait a moment. According to the company, "Cup Noodles" had been sold a total of 25 billion times by 2006. In 2007, Nissin Foods sold over 85.7 billion ready-to-eat meals a year.

Nissin's products found numerous imitators, initially mainly in Asia. Meanwhile, the concept of "Cup Noodles" modeled on that used by food manufacturers country kitchens customized ready-made meals from freeze-dried ingredients available.

Since 1999, the Momofuko Andō Museum , founded by Nissin Foods , has been presenting Ikeda Andō's life and company history.

In 2008 the company was renamed Nisshin Shokuhin Holdings KK and Nisshin Shokuhin KK was founded as a subsidiary.

After the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan on March 11, 2011, Nissin distributed a million food boxes as well as mobile gas kitchens and drinking water in the refugee camps in the crisis regions.
