Björn Försterling (born July 23, 1982 in Wolfenbüttel ) is a German politician ( FDP ) and has been a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament since 2008 . The graduate finance economist (FH) and tax inspector a. D. is deputy parliamentary group leader of the Lower Saxony FDP parliamentary group , spokesman for education policy as well as spokesman for religious and ideological issues of the parliamentary group and member of the state board of the Free Democrats of Lower Saxony .

Life and work

Björn Försterling grew up in Wolfenbüttel, where he attended elementary school and orientation level as well as the high school in the castle . After graduating from high school in 2001, he completed an apprenticeship for the higher-level tax administration service in the Wolfenbüttel tax office and at the Lower Saxony University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Justice in Rinteln , which he graduated with a degree in finance . Försterling then worked as a tax inspector in the Wolfenbüttel tax office until the state elections in 2008 , namely in the general assessment, the legal remedies office and the corporate income tax office.

Försterling lives in Wolfenbüttel, has been married to an architect since 2017 and has no children.

Career with the Free Democrats

Försterling joined the FDP in 1998 on his 16th birthday. From 1998 to 2004 he was a member of the board of directors of the FDP city association Wolfenbüttel, initially as secretary and press spokesman, from 2002 as chairman. In 2004 he was elected chairman of the superordinate FDP district association Wolfenbüttel and a member of the state board of the FDP Lower Saxony. Försterling continues to hold both positions. Since 2010 he has also been chairman of the FDP district association in Braunschweig. He was a member of the 2017 program commission to develop the FDP's federal election program.

In addition to his involvement in the FDP, Försterling was treasurer of the Lower Saxony State Association of Young Liberals (JuLis) from 2003 to 2007 and its state chairman from 2007 to 2008.

Parliamentary activity

In the state elections in 2003 , 2008 , 2013 and 2017 , Försterling was a direct candidate for the FDP in the Wolfenbüttel constituency . In the state elections in 2008 , 2013 and 2017 , he was elected to the Lower Saxony state parliament via the state list of his party. Since he first moved into the state parliament in 2008, Försterling has been the education policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group in the Lower Saxony state parliament. In the 16th electoral term he was also the youth policy spokesman for his group.

In the 16th electoral term he was a member of the culture committee and continued his work in this committee for the duration of the 17th electoral term. In addition, Försterling was a member of numerous parliamentary investigative committees of the Lower Saxony state parliament. He represented the FDP parliamentary group as chairman in the 21st parliamentary committee of inquiry (2009–2012) on events in the Asse II mine . As a deputy member alongside the FDP chairman Jörg Bode , he was part of the 22nd Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry into events during the service of the retired State Secretary . D. Udo Paschedag , who met from 2013 to 2015. Försterling was also a deputy member of the 24th parliamentary committee of inquiry, which met in 2017, into legal violations in the award of public contracts under the responsibility of the red-green state government in Lower Saxony, this time alongside the chairman of the Free Democrats Christian Grascha .

Försterling is involved in the FDP parliamentary group chairman's conference in its education (school and university) working group. In 2011 he was elected chairman of this working group.

On September 26, 2017, the members of the FDP parliamentary group in the Lower Saxony state parliament elected him deputy chairman of their parliamentary group.

Conflict with the AfD

In December 2019, Björn Försterling described the AfD as enemies of the constitution in a television interview and was then asked by the party to sign a declaration of cease and desist. The FDP politician refused by declaring that he would not allow himself to be "silenced".

Local politics

Since the local elections in 2006 , Försterling has been a member of the Wolfenbüttel district council . Until 2011 he was chairman of the FDP district parliamentary group. From 2011 on he sat as the individual representative of the FDP in the district council until the FDP moved into parliamentary groups again with the Lower Saxony local elections in 2016 . Since then, Försterling has been chairman of the FDP district parliamentary group again.

Björn Försterling was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Braunschweigischer Kulturbesitz Foundation from 2009 to 2014 and a deputy member of the administrative committee of the Braunschweig State Theater from 2009 to 2012 . Since 2013 he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lower Saxony Memorials Foundation . He is also a member of the German Tax Union , the German Parliamentary Society and 1. FC Cologne .

In his hometown of Wolfenbüttel, Försterling is chairman of the local association of the German Red Cross Wolfenbüttel eV, standby leader of the DRK readiness Wolfenbüttel and officer for disaster control of the DRK district association Wolfenbüttel eV In addition, Försterling is chairman of the literary society Salzgitter eV He is a supporting member of the Wolfenbüttel volunteer fire service and the Wolfenbüttel hospice association.
