Nneka Okpala

Nneka Okpala (born April 27, 1988 in Otahuhu , Auckland ) is a New Zealand athlete . She is New Zealand's record holder in the triple jump . Nneka Okpla's height is 1.75 m.

Life

Nneka Okpala's family came to Auckland from Nigeria in 1987 . She attended the Diocesan School for Girls in the suburb of Epsom and then the University of Auckland . Her club is the Pakuranga Athletic Club from Auckland, of which she has been a member since she was six. She was trained in New Zealand by Paul Lothian, and later by the decathlete Scott McLaren. Since 2012 she has been studying in Melbourne , Australia . Your trainer has been Vasily Grishchenkov since September 2012 . She worked part-time for the police in Pukekohe and since she was in Australia for the police in Melbourne.

Her younger brother Ebuka (* 1993) is also a triple jumper and New Zealand champion.

National

She won several New Zealand youth championships and held the New Zealand U16 and U19 triple jump records. She won the New Zealand women's triple jump championship in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

International

In international appearances, she won the Oceania Athletics Championships in 2006 in Apia with 12.29 m. In the 4 x 100 meter relay she received a bronze medal in Apia in third place (it won Papua New Guinea ahead of Australia). At the Oceania Championships 2010 in Cairns , she was second with 12.21 m behind Katie Cox . At the Australian Triple Jump Championships in 2011 she was third. She won the Oceania Championships 2012 in Cairns with 12.85 m and a new championship record. In the 100-meter run , she came third there. In 2014 she took part in the Australian Championships in Melbourne and jumped a new New Zealand record in second place with 13.55 m. Tania Dixon's old record of 13.48 m came from 1997. At the Canberra Track Classics on February 7, 2015, Nneka Okpala increased her national best to 13.65 m. This was the longest jump at this meeting since 2001. Another increase in the New Zealand record to 13.89 m succeeded at the IAAF World Challenge in Melbourne on March 5, 2016, which she won. At the Australian Athletics Championships on April 2, 2016 in Sydney , which she won, she improved her New Zealand record again with 13.91 m.
