Noémie Etienne

Noémie Etienne (* 1981 ) is a Swiss art historian and SNF - conveying a professor at the Institute of Art History at the University of Bern .

Life

Noémie Étienne studied art history at the University of Geneva . She worked as an assistant at the University of Geneva (2005–2011) and the University of Zurich (2013). In 2011 she received her doctorate from the University of Geneva and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne . In 2012 she received an SNSF postdoc grant and was a visiting scholar at New York University . Between 2013 and 2015 she was an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the New York University Institute of Fine Arts, and between 2015 and 2016 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. The habilitation took place in 2017 at the University of Bern.

In 2018 she was visiting professor at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne , 2018–2019 visiting lecturer at the University of Bielefeld . In 2019 she was a Guest Fellow at the Art History Institute in Florence . In 2020 she received a fellowship at the International College for Cultural Technology Research and Media Philosophy at the Bauhaus University Weimar .

In 2020 Noémie Étienne will conduct a research project on the exotic in Europe between 1600 and 1800 and is working on a new book project with Yaëlle Biro .

Together with Meredith Martin and Hannah Williams , she is a founding member of Journal18 , a specialist journal on art and culture in the 18th century.
