Nobody (film series)
“Nobody” was the name of the male title hero of a silent detective film series, which was produced in 1921 under the direction of Josef Stein by the two production companies Nobody-Film GmbH (Berlin) and Progreß-Film GmbH (Berlin). Film alone, and from the 22nd episode onwards by Promo-Film AG (Berlin). The role of the detective Nobody was played by the German sensational actor Sylvester Schäffer junior (1885–1949).
history
The series was the serial novel “Detective Nobody's Experiences and Travel Adventures. Edited from his diaries ”by the German colortage writer Robert Kraft , which was published from 1904 (first series) and from 1906 (second series) in the publishing house HG Münchmeyer in Dresden. Paul O'Montis and John Halifax edited the lyrics for the film.
Out of 52 planned episodes, a total of 25 one-act plays of different meters (200-400) were actually realized, starting with the first episode, called "1. Episode" 1921 up to “14. Episode ”1921; From the 15th the episodes were called “Adventure” instead of episodes and lasted until “21st Adventure ”1921. From episode 22 they were called“ Episodes ”again and were given an explicit title. Episodes 8 and 25 could be identical.
The films were shot in the Berlin Bioscop studio by cameramen Ewald Daub and Adolf Otto Weitzenberg . It is not known in full who appeared in the individual episodes, only actor names are known for the seventh and the last two episodes (24 and 25):
- In the 7th episode, the ladies Marie-Luise Jürgens and Anna von Palen and the gentlemen Magnus Stifter and Josef Commer participated .
- in the 24th episode played Lili Dominici , Hans Adalbert Schlettow and M. Trautner.
- in the 25th episode one saw Lili Dominici, Leonhard Haskel , Ernst Pittschau and the singer actor Paul Hansen. Georg H. Schnell played Lucifer .
The premiere of the Nobody film series took place on September 23, 1921 in the “Sportpalast-Lichtspiele” in Berlin. A nobody journal was published to accompany the film project. The last four known episodes were before the re-introduced Reichsfilmzensur censorship on January 30, 1922. It banned young people from visiting the “Nobody” films.
In 1922 four more "Nobody" films were made with Sylvester Schäffer, but they no longer have an "adventure" or "episode" assignment, but detailed titles. They are no longer one-act plays, but feature-length films with 6 acts. Two of them were still from Promo-Film AG Berlin, the other two from Nobody-Film GmbH. Berlin produces. The scriptwriter was Peter Heuser , and the directors were Josef Stein and Karl Gerhardt .
The films are currently considered lost.
