Hans Adalbert Schlettow , born in Hans Adalbert Droescher (born June 11, 1888 in Frankfurt am Main , † April 30, 1945 in Berlin ) was a German actor .

Life

He began his career as a volunteer under his real name in 1908 at the Schauspielhaus Frankfurt . Then he came to Barmen and was later engaged at the Mannheim Court Theater from 1915 to 1919 . In 1920 he took up an engagement at the Fantastic Theater in Berlin-Charlottenburg .

Under the stage name "Schlettow", several times also "von Schlettow", he played in around 150 German films between 1917 and 1945. Initially mainly used as a lover, including the title role of Don Juan in 1922, he gradually became the actor of sinister characters such as Satan in Job , Hagen von Tronje in The Nibelungs , Criminal in Asphalt and a murderer in You shouldn't commit adultery! .

From the sound film era, he was initially seen in leading roles such as in The Great Bomberg and The Hunter from Kurpfalz , later he became a supporting actor. In 1940 he played the Winnetou opponent Santer at the Karl May Games in Werder .

Schlettow belonged before the " seizure " of the Nazis the nationalist -minded, anti-Semitic Militant League for German Culture and the National Socialist Factory Cell Organization on. During the time of National Socialism, Schlettow was regarded by colleagues as an informer . In the final phase of the Second World War , Joseph Goebbels included him in the God-gifted list of the most important film actors in August 1944, which should save him from a war mission, including on the home front . However, he died shortly before the end of the war during the Battle of Berlin .

His grave is in the mountain cemetery in Berchtesgaden .
