Nocturne (computer game)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nocturne is a computer game released in 1999 by the US developer Terminal Reality .

action

The action takes place in the 1920s and 1930s and tells the adventures of a man called Stranger by everyone, who is a member of a secret organization of the US government called Spookhouse. The task of Spookhouse is to investigate and combat supernatural phenomena and monsters, with the agents operating in secret. Spookhouse was founded in 1903 by the American President Theodore Roosevelt , who was attacked by a werewolf himself in the Spanish-American War in Cuba in 1898 and therefore knew about the existence of supernatural phenomena.

The plot of the game is divided into four acts, each of which has its own plot, but is linked to one another by a loose framework.

The first act, The Dark Rule of the Vampire King , leads the Stranger to Germany in 1927, where he fights against werewolves and vampires in a castle together with the Spookhouse agent and half-vampire Svetlana Lupescu.

The second act, The Tomb of the Underground God, takes place in 1931 Texas, where Stranger battles a zombie epidemic in a small town.

The third act, Chicago Massacre, takes place in 1933 in Chicago, where Al Capone formed an army of gangsters raised from the dead.

Act four, House on the Edge of Hell , is set in France in 1935, where Stranger examines an old mansion where various supernatural beings and traps await him.

After successfully completing the four previous missions, the fifth act is an approximately five-minute interactive epilogue.

Gameplay

The player controls the protagonist Stranger from a third person perspective. This can be moved freely in a 3D environment. The plot is driven by solving simple puzzles and fighting monsters, for which various weapons are available.

background

The game uses the Nocturne engine , which is also used by the three Blair Witch Project- based games, The Blair Witch Project: Rustin Parr , The Legend of Coffin Rock, and The Elly Kedward Tale .

The dubbing of the Stranger was done by Manfred Lehmann , the German dubbing voice by Bruce Willis.

Aftermath

Nocturne had a great influence on the game BloodRayne , whose working title was initially Nocturne 2 and which contains a variety of allusions to the model, part of the plot takes place in the same castle in Germany as the first act of Nocturne . Originally, Svetlana Lupescu from Nocturne was supposed to appear as the main character in BloodRayne .
