The Noksaek Party ( Korean : 녹색당 , transliteration : Noksaek-dang , in German : Green Party ) is a party in South Korea .

history

On October 30, 2011, a preparatory committee for the establishment of the Green Party in South Korea was formed. Since at least 1000 members in five cities of five provinces are required to found a party in South Korea, attempts were made at events on November 5th in Gyeonggi-do ( 경기도 ), on November 11th in Seoul ( 서울 특별시 ), on November 17th in the city of Busan ( 부산 광역시 ), followed by further events in Chungcheongnam-do ( 충청남도 ), in the city of Daegu ( 대구 광역시 ) and on the island of Jejudo ( 제주도 ) to recruit the necessary members.

As a result, the necessary membership numbers were generated at five founding events (Gyeonggi-do on February 5, 2012, Seoul on February 12, Busan on February 14, Daegu on February 23 and Choongcheongnam-do on February 26) so that on March 4, 2012 the party was officially founded.

The party ran for the parliamentary elections in 2012 with three candidates on its party list and with around 100,000 votes only achieved 0.48% of the total vote. The party thus missed the necessary 3% of the votes, which were necessary in order not to be deleted as a party under Korean electoral law.

After derestration, the party was founded on October 13, 2012 under the new name Noksaek-dang-deohagi ( 녹색당 더하기 ). Translated, the party was now called Green Party Plus, but the deohagi ( 더하기 ) could also be understood as “ do more” and an invitation to the voters.

On February 19, 2014, the party renamed itself back to its original name Noksaek-dang . In a by-election in 2014, the party already achieved 1.25% of the vote, but failed again at the 3% hurdle. In the 2016 general election , the party received 0.76% of the vote.

Memberships

The party is a member of the Global Greens and the Asia Pacific Greens Federation .
