Nomada similis is a bee from the family of Apidae .

features

The bees are 8 to 9 millimeters long. The head and thorax of the females are black and drawn in red. The tergites are basal black and otherwise red. The labrum is black and has a serrated transverse ridge in the front part. The third antenna segment is significantly longer than the fourth. The weakly humped scutellum is black and has narrow, shiny spaces between the punctiform structures. The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are blunt at the end and have numerous small thorns standing next to and on top of each other. The heel phalanx (metatarsus) is black and has a longitudinal impression on the outside. The head and thorax of the males are black, often only their mandibles and calli are yellow or red. The basal black tergites are red, the second and third have yellow spots. The labrum is as in the female, the second and third antennae as well. The label is also the same. The thighs ( femora ) of the rear legs are provided with a hair fringe at the bottom. The rails of the hind legs are blunt at the end and have short, fine, small thorns.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is common in southern and central Europe. The animals fly from mid-June to early August. They parasitize Panurgus banksianus .
