Norbert Hartmann (born July 24, 1946 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † July 14, 2007 in Binzen ) was a German painter and draftsman.

biography

He spent most of his life in the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland, whose cross-border culture not only influenced his work. In 1961 Hartmann trained as a technical draftsman, followed in 1968 by high school graduation. He then completed a degree in art from 1968 to 1972 in Freiburg im Breisgau. From 1972 to 1975 additional studies followed at the University of Heidelberg . Hartmann initially worked as a technical draftsman and later for over 20 years as a special school teacher.

He worked as a freelance artist mainly in Binzen (Baden-Württemberg Germany) in the field of modern abstract contemporary art. Hartmann created several thousand oil paintings, collages , sculptures and drawings. Special features of his art were the abstract, mostly blue-toned object shapes, iron frames and characteristic materials such as resin, styrofoam and pigments.

The experimentation, the discussion and the perfecting of the craft allowed him to find an independent, original expression. He always worked on several objects at the same time in order to use the full potential of a mutually influencing process. The examination of contemporary artists such as Kelly, Beuys and Chillida also provided inspiration. He went from semi-narrative early works influenced by surrealism into the abstract, into the expressive forms of representation. In the late work, the result is worlds of form, surface communication and bundles of lines made of canvas, oil, acrylic and pigments that reflect the growth and decay of nature. He had his first regional exhibitions at the end of the 1980s, initially mainly in the Lörrach area and in Basel . A total of more than thirty exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, the Netherlands and even the USA and Japan followed. One of the highlights and at the same time recognition of his works was the awarding of the Markgräfler Art Prize in 1996.
