Norbert Leo Butz (born January 30, 1967 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American actor and musical artist . A two-time winner of the Tony Award as Best Actor in a Musical . He is one of only nine actors who have received this award twice.

Life

Norbert Leo Butz is the son of Elaine and Norbert Butz. He is the seventh of 11 children in his family and was named after his father, Norbert. He graduated from Webster University and received his Masters from the Alabama Shakespeare Theater.

He is the father of two daughters: Clara and Maggie Lou.

In July 2009, his sister Teresa Butz was attacked at home and fatally injured.

Career

For his Broadway appearances in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels , Norbert Leo Butz received a Tony , a Drama Desk Award , the Prize of the Outer Critics Circle, the Astaire Award and the Drama League Award. His other Broadway plays include the production of Wicked , in which he established the role of Fiyero, Thou Shalt Not - which earned him Tony , Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle nominations - and Rent , in which he played Original cast belonged to and appeared on stage in Broadway debut.

Off-Broadway he was u. a. in Buicks ( Drama Desk nomination), also in The Last Five Years (nominations for Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Award, winner of the Drama League Award), in Juno and the Paycock at the Roundabout Theater and in Saved at the Theater for a New Audience. His portrayal of the emcee on Cabaret's first American tour earned him the Helen Hayes, Jefferson, Dora, and Ovation Awards. For four seasons he participated in the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and played several roles at the Repertory Theater in St. Louis.

His films include a. Noon Blue Apples (2002, nominated at the Sundance Film Festival ) and Went to Coney Island (1998); on television he was z. See, for example, the TV miniseries Comanche Moon and Law & Order .

From 2015 to 2017 he played one of the leading roles in the Netflix series Bloodline .
