Norberto Gonzales

Norberto Gonzales Jr. (born April 17, 1947 in Balanga City , Bataan Province ) is a Filipino politician .

biography

After attending school he completed an undergraduate degree in medicine (pre-medicine) at the Ateneo de Davao University , which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in 1968 , and then studied chemistry at the University of the Philippines , which he graduated with a Master of Science (MSc Chemistry).

Gonzales, who has been chairman of the Partido Demokratiko Sosyalista ng Pilipinas (PDSP) since 1973, became special advisor to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2001 , who appointed him National Security Advisor and Director General of the National Security Council in February 2004. On August 18, 2004 he was then Chief of Staff (Presidential Chief of Staff) and held this office until February 2005.

In February 2005, he was then re-national security adviser and as such intermediate July and August 2007 in addition briefly as Acting Defense Minister in the (Secretary of National Defense) Cabinet Macapagal-Arroyo appointed. In 2006 he earned another Masters degree in National Security Administration with a thesis on "The GRP- CPP - NPA- NDF Peace Negotiations: Assessing Maturity" at the National Defense College, which he chaired the Alumni Association since 2008.

He took over the office of Minister for National Defense again on November 15, 2009 after the previous Minister Gilberto Teodoro resigned from the government on May 10, 2010 because of his candidacy for the presidential elections.
