The Northern Capital GmbH (proper spelling NORDCAPITAL ) is an underwriter of Hamburg .
The company was founded in 1992 by Erck Rickmers and his brother Bertram . Both come from the Rickmers family, whose shipping company of the same name has been building and shipping ships since 1834 . In 1996, Bertram Rickmers left Nordcapital, and Erck managed the company alone from then on. In 1998 the shipping company ER Schiffahrt emerged from Nordcapital , which in the first few years concentrated on the operation and chartering of container ships . In January 2008, the company at that time was restructured: under the umbrella of a holding company, ER Capital Holding, Rickmers formed three operating companies: Nordcapital, ER Schiffahrt and the fund house equitrust. From 1992 to the end of 2015, Nordcapital invested around 6.8 billion euros in 140 closed-end funds .
Nordcapital's largest business area is ship finance . In 2011, Nordcapital was the largest provider of closed-end ship funds in Germany based on placed equity . In 2011 the company placed EUR 87.4 million in equity.
It has (as of the end of 2015) six business areas:
- Nordcapital issuing house : structuring and raising the equity portion of the closed funds that have been launched
- Nordcapital Investment : since 2014 registered capital management company (KVG) for alternative investment funds (AIF)
- Nordcapital Shipping : asset management of ship funds
- Nordcapital Alternative Assets : Asset management in the areas of real estate, energy supply, renewable energies and private equity
- Nordcapital external fund management : Asset management for fund providers that do not belong to the Nordcapital Group
- Nordcapital Treuhand : Investor support
