The Norddeutsche Figuralchor is a German mixed choir based in Hanover . It was founded in 1981 by Jörg Straube . Under his leadership, the choir developed into one of the leading semi-professional chamber choirs in Germany.

repertoire

The North German Figural Choir masters works from the 16th century to the music of the 20th century . A particular focus is on the development and performance of romantic choral literature and so-called early music .

Concert activities

The North German Figural Choir made concert tours to France , Poland , the Czech Republic , Spain , Portugal and repeatedly to Japan . In 1994 and 1995 the choir was invited by the Foreign Office and the German Music Council to Romania , Albania , Slovenia and Macedonia .

Honourings and prices

Under the direction of Jörg Straube, the choir won numerous prizes at national and international choir competitions:

  • 1985: 3rd prize at the German Choir Competition (special category)
  • 1990: 1st prize at the German Choir Competition
  • 1992: 1st prize at the chamber choir competition in Takarazuka / Japan
  • 1997: 1st prize at the Brahms competition in Hamburg
  • 1999: 1st and 2nd prize at the 31st choir competition in Tolosa / Spain

The choral music recordings under the direction of Jörg Straube have won several record and CD awards:

  • In 1998, 1999 and 2008 the choir was awarded the ECHO Klassik for choir / ensemble music - a cappella
  • In 2010 the choir was awarded two ECHO-Klassik prizes: as “Vocal Ensemble of the Year” and for “Best Choral Work of the Year - Choir / Ensemble Music 20./21. Century ”(the latter together with 8 other Hanoverian choirs).
