The Nordmetall Foundation is a non-profit, legal foundation under civil law. It develops, initiates and supports projects in the fields of education and science, society and culture in northern Germany that promote talent, strengthen cohesion and enrich the north. In doing so, she is committed to the north German region with its various economic and living locations in the long term and permanently. The Nordmetall Foundation was established in 2004 and is based in Hamburg in the Hamburg House of Business .

The chairman of the board is Thomas Lambusch, chairman of the board of trustees is Lutz Oelsner.

Funding purpose

The purpose of the foundation is to promote education, science and research, “social measures and institutions” and culture in Hamburg, Bremen , Schleswig-Holstein , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and north-western Lower Saxony . The fulfillment of the foundation's purpose is made possible by the annual income from the foundation's assets. The foundation capital can be increased through endowments and donations.

The Nordmetall Foundation has been pursuing sector-specific goals with its funding since 2017. In education and science, for example, it concentrates on promoting talented multipliers in the field of MINT subjects , in order to get young people in particular excited about mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. In the area of ​​society, the foundation focuses on promoting civic engagement in order to strengthen good cooperation and solidarity in society. The foundation's cultural commitment aims to support multipliers in establishing connections between classical culture and the modern world in order to get more people interested in culture

Among other things, the foundation financed the Ulrich Wildgruber Prize , endowed with 10,000 euros, between 2007 and 2016 , which is awarded annually in memory of the actor Ulrich Wildgruber , who died in 1999 .

The Nordmetall Foundation was set up on January 28, 2004 by the then Nordmetall Association with its then 260 member companies. The current foundation amount is 80 million euros.
