Nordmetall (completely Nordmetall - Verband der Metall- und Elektroindustrie e.V. ) is a regional employers' association in Northern Germany . It represents around 220 companies in the metal and electrical industry with around 120,000 employees in Hamburg , Bremen , Schleswig-Holstein , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and northwestern Lower Saxony . This includes companies from the aerospace and automotive industries, machine and ship builders, steel producers and specialists from medical and electrical engineering.

Nordmetall is a member of the Gesamtmetall employers' association .

Nordmetall is based in Hamburg

The association negotiates collective bargaining agreements with IG Metall -Küste, advises and supports its members in all collective bargaining, labor and social law issues as well as ergonomic issues such as company organization, pay systems and health protection.

In the field of educational work, the association initiates and accompanies numerous projects from early childhood education in daycare centers to campaigns for career orientation and recruiting young people through to supporting members with training, further education and training.

Since 2004, the association has maintained the Nordmetall Foundation with a focus on education and science, society and culture. With a major donation of 10 million euros in 2007, the Nordmetall employers' association is promoting the further growth of Jacobs University Bremen . At the end of April 2009, the “College Nordmetall” went into operation there, a residential building for around 257 students. At the end of 2009, Nordmetall incorporated its educational activities into a non-profit limited company with the title "Nordbildung - Bildungsverbund für die Metall- und Elektroindustrie".

The association was created in 2007 through the union of three employers' associations in Northern Germany. It is registered as a registered association in Hamburg and also maintains the main office there. To support its member companies, the association has ten additional offices in Bremen, Bremerhaven, Cuxhaven, Emden, Kiel, Neubrandenburg, Oldenburg, Rostock, Schwerin and Wilhelmshaven. The general manager is Nico Fickinger. The president since 2013 has been the Rostock entrepreneur Thomas Lambusch, who previously acted as negotiator in collective bargaining. Lambusch is also chairman of the Nordwindaktiv employer network, which was founded in March 2015 by Nordmetall and six other North German employers' associations.
