Characteristic

The north-east Thuringian language area is largely outside the state borders of Thuringia. As in North Thuringia, there are also numerous Low German language elements here, but unlike in that, the long i and u are diphthongized to ei and au as in High German. (Wine House). Features such as the pronunciation of k as g before vowels (Gimmelgerner - caraway seeds) and of g as j (jut - good) are also typical of the neighboring Osterland language .

Mansfeld forms a specific dialect of its own on a Low German substrate within the northeast Thuringian language area .
