classification

The Mansfeld is a dialect that only to the region Hettstedt - Mansfeld and Eisleben relates. In the Grunddörfen (between Eisleben and Helbra) this dialect is still very pronounced in its original form, but not only there. The Mansfeldisch is an East Thuringian dialect based on a Low German substrate.

distribution

In the region in which Mansfeldisch is spoken, in the area of the former county of Mansfeld , there are landscapes such as the Friesenfeld , i. i. a landscape in which Frisians settled in order to carry out extensive drainage work. The Engilin is very close by . There can be no doubt that both names go back to tribes that came far from the north - Frisians, Angles.

The Mansfeld was mainly "cultivated" through the hard work of the miners and farmers . For example, the place name Helbra becomes “Helwer” or “Hälwer”. "Hälwer" is the original form, which was transformed into High German as "Helbra". An explanation of the place names can be found at Gößler. The "e" is often pronounced as "ä". Words like “down”, “up” and “up” are pronounced “ringer” and “roff” or “noff”. For example, the phrase “Are you coming downstairs?” Sounds like this: “Kammeste moal runger?”. These formations have a northern Thuringian character. "Children" become "Kinger" and "find" become "catch". Another example is the word "haben", which in spoken language changes to "hammse" in relation to a question. This pronunciation "hammse" is, however, an adaptation to the Upper Saxon pronunciation, in the original Mansfeld it is called "hawwense". Mansfeldisch is divided into the sea dialect, the mountain dialect and Saalmansfeldisch (see Richard Jecht ).

In the media

The Mansfeldische is regularly parodied in formats of the Halle radio station MDR Sputnik . In the Sputnik Mailbox format, it speaks u. a. a fictional commissioner Meiner in dialect on a mailbox. His name is an allusion to the salutation Meiner often heard in the Mansfeld area .

The Commedyduo Elsterglanz from Eisleben prominently uses Mansfeld in their works. In the past it published skits, songs and two feature films, which were shown in several East German cinemas ( Im Banne der Rouladenkönigin and Elsterglanz and the key for the women's sauna ).
