classification

The Hallische (also Hallensisch or Hall Esch is) a dialect that refers to the independent city of Halle (Saale) refers. The dialect is still fully developed in the city of Halle and the surrounding villages in the Saalekreis . In terms of linguistic history, Hallisch developed from an originally Low German city dialect to an East Central German -influenced urban colloquial language on the border between Upper Saxony and Thuringia. Due to its border location, the dialect is assigned to Upper Saxon Northeastern on the one hand and Northeast Thuringian on the other and has typical linguistic peculiarities at all language levels.

Typical words, which are only used in the city of Halle and the surrounding villages, come from the “Glauchian dialect” or “Lattcherschmus”, a dialectic that was strongly based on Red Welsh and was spoken in the Glaucha district of Halle .
